Colour therapy colouring books

Posted on 06/05/201621/10/2016

You’ve all seen the latest craze – colour therapy colouring books – hard to miss as they are literally everywhere. And I have to say they are amazing in a multitude of themes for adults and kids.  I did buy one at my local supermarket and I have done some colouring, not completely hooked yet.  Have you tried one and is it for you?

I love the theory behind them – focusing on something intricate taking all of your attention can dissolve stress and frustration – for some of us – for others it can cause more stress if it’s not the thing for you!!

From a colour therapy point of view, the best way to choose colours is to go with the first one you pick and not think too much about whether the colours are matching or not. The colours you instinctively choose are the colours your body needs to balance itself (the chakras) and be in harmony. So go with the flow and have some fun! Pretend to be 5 years old when it doesn’t matter if colours clash.

In saying that, each of us is an individual and has our own way of relieving stress.  You may not be able to stand the finicky colouring in of delicate shapes and patterns, and that’s OK. Maybe your stress dissolves with running around the park, taking in the colours of nature.  You’ll get the relief from physical exercise, and your body and chakras will balance themselves by taking in all the colours of nature.  Nature is grounding and healing.  Or you may love to walk barefoot in the grass, another beautiful grounding method, being connected to the earth.  All of us need to find the best way to relieve stress and imbalance.

I have to admit I’ve only coloured in 2 pictures in my colour therapy colouring book.  Once I start I love it, although my body usually lets me know what it needs to be balanced and each day is different.  From water colour painting watching the colours blend and make glorious patterns, lying barefoot on the grass and soaking in the vitamin D from the sun to free writing – which is incredible to let go of things rather than keep them stuck in your head and thinking about them.

Colour therapy colouring books might be the best thing for you and woo hoo! That’s fantastic.

Otherwise next time you need to relax and relieve some stress, stop and listen to your body. When you are still, your body will let you know what it needs.

Enjoy..
