Creating a colourful reading nook

Posted on 21/10/201621/10/2016

I was completely inspired today after visiting Dymocks bookstore in the city.  On a mission to find books I started of thinking how to create a great reading nook. There were so many books in the children’s section at Dymocks I was in my element.   I was looking for new books for my daughter.  She’s 5 and loves reading.  Her latest love is reading the adventures of Geronimo Stilton.

Yes, it’s the age of technology, and a lot of you may be reading e-books, fantastic!  For me I love the feel and texture of a book and the action of physically turning the pages to see what happens next.

From my inspired shopping expedition I thought I’d post some ideas for a reading nook, whether you love traditional books or e-books you’ll love creating a space to relax, take some time for yourself and enjoy your book.

If you have lots of room dedicate some space for reading, and if its close to your books even better. The spaces doesn’t need to be big, it could be a corner of your sofa with a side table for books, or a special spot in your bedroom.  Just a space that you can call “yours”.

What would a reading nook look and feel like?  Relaxing, cosy, comfortable, think cushions, soft chairs, soft furnishings, blankets/throw rugs, swinging chairs.

Here are some ideas.

Then I came across an amazing variation on the humble bean bag for all the big kids who love reading!  It’s from Ambient lounge and they have a range of different styles and colours for inside and outside.  This one’s call the Butterfly Sofa.

Enjoy creating your own special reading nook, you’ll feel great relaxing in your own space, and a wonderful way to encourage kids to read.
