Why green is important in our lives

Have you ever felt better by going for a walk in the park?  Love walking on the grass with bare feet?  If you’re upset people will suggest going for a walk to calm down and feel better.

Why is it?

Most of our time is spent indoors, looking at four walls or a computer screen and only seeing daylight through windows.  A lot of offices have plants to bring nature in and make employees feel better. Then on weekends people love spending time outdoors, walking, playing sport , enjoying a meal outdoors.  We instinctively know what our bodies need to balance itself and we naturally gravitate to that need.

The photo above is the amazing view of where I was married.  Each time I look at the rich greens I feel calm and relaxed.  We recently visited the Aboretum in Canberra for the first time.  It was amazingly calm and watching the breeze blow the long grass I could feel a calmness and harmony go through me. It was amazing.

Walking barefoot on grass is a great way to balance yourself.  You “feel” the green grass underfoot and ground yourself by touching the earth.  If you haven’t done it for a while, pretend you’re a kid again, slow down, focus on the experience and see how much better you feel.

When we go outside and see green we’re part of nature and we absorb the green by seeing it helping balance and heal our bodies.  Green is balancing, harmonising, healing, centring, the promise of new beginnings (like new growth on plants).  It’s good for easing stress and calming.  Green is the colour of the heart chakra and strengths the bonds in a relationship.

If you spend most of your time inside, it’s easy to add some green – a small plant (can be artificial if you’re not a gardener!), a photo of nature, cushions, beautiful green foliage in a vase.  I was in Ikea at Rhodes today and they have a fantastic selection of artificial plants like these ones, add them to a colourful pot and nature comes to any space.

And to add to this natural green theme, this is my new artwork available at my Colourdreamland store at Zazzle.com  on canvas or as a poster.

Happy relaxation!
