Today, let’s talk curtains. No, not the lace curtains at Grandma’s house, a modern take on curtains. I love using curtains to add colour and over the years have made curtains myself as I couldn’t find what I wanted to buy to suit my theme.
Curtains can look amazing using the right fabric. It’s an easy way to add colour or a theme to a room, can be inexpensive, easy to change if you’re renting, adds colour without painting walls, or you want to frequent changes as the kids are growing and changing.
Searching online for curtains I found limited choices . I came across these underwater themed ones and dinosaurs, great for little kids to get their imagination working.
What about older kids or maybe a fairy theme or ballerina theme?
I’ve always made curtains from dress fabric rather than curtain fabric as there is so much choice of fabric, glittery, sheer, patterned, themed, like these ones that I had a home, or the butterflies from Spotlight stores.
If you’re a sewer, making curtains is easy. If you’re not, you can ask a dressmaker/alteration shop if they make curtains. The simplest design is a seam that threads through a curtain rod. The more complex designs are pleated type curtains and tabbed tops, all do-able.
Have a look around your local fabric store and be inspired.
