Feel good colours

Posted on 15/02/202315/02/2023

What are feel good colours when you’re feeling ill

This is me in the hospital last December after having ankle surgery to repair a torn tendon and tighten ligaments. And I wore this recovery boot for six weeks during the day and for sleeping to help healing. I feel blessed that I had this boot for my recovery as my recovery is going well and the surgery was successful.

What does a recovery boot have to do with colour and feeling good?

The first two weeks were the hardest as I was on crutches (no weight bearing on my foot), and quite painful, and I had to elevate my foot above the level of my heart for most of the time to promote the best healing. I was also very tired.

I had two choices. I could have stayed in my pyjamas all day, napped, and watched movies. My choice was colour, elevate, nap, and do what I could to feel as normal as I could. I learn violin and one of my goals was to play in my studio end of year concert, three days after my surgery and I got there, and played!

How did I accomplish this?

It was first setting an intention and mindset. I was determined to play in the violin concert.

The second most important thing I did was each morning I got dressed and put on bright colours. Very intentional. I looked at cream coloured tops and didn’t feel good. When I put on a bright coloured top, it gave me energy to get through the day and keep a positive mindset. The colours made me feel good and lifted my energy, allowing me to focus on the end outcome of my ankle being fully healed, and putting into my future the activities I could enjoy again like walking every morning, walking through the local national park, exploring new places and planning to travel, which for me involves lots of walking.

There are a lot of people who wear black a lot of time, and this can drain your energy. Do you wear black all the time? Do you feel full of energy or low on energy and feeling less positive?

I only have one pair of black pants that I don’t wear often. When I wear black I don’t feel comfortable and my energy levels drop and I feel more pessimistic.

When we wear or surround ourselves with colours that make us feel good, we feel good, and if you’re feeling unwell, it can set the intention for healing.

Wearing colour can be small if you’re tentative about wearing a new colour – a scarf, for the girls a flower in your hair, for the boys a tie or socks. What colour? You will gravitate towards the colour that makes you feel good if you allow yourself to be open to wearing colour.

My challenge for you is to ask yourself, can I wear something colourful today to lift my energy and feel more positive?

What colour would you choose today?

Have a wonderfully colourful day!
